The ideal candidate will inspire and equip students with a strong foundation in Financial Accounting, Bookkeeping, and related commercial subjects. This role goes beyond classroom instruction — it involves developing students’ numerical skills, critical thinking, ethical business awareness, and examination readiness while aligning with the Nigerian educational curriculum (NERDC, WAEC, NECO, and BECE standards). As an Accounting Teacher, you will create an engaging, practical, and supportive learning environment that prepares students for academic success, professional certifications, and future careers in finance, business, or entrepreneurship.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, prepare, and deliver well-structured, differentiated lessons in Financial Accounting, covering topics such as bookkeeping, double-entry system, trial balance, financial statements, partnership accounts, company accounts, cost accounting, and basic taxation.
• Teach both theory and practical aspects using real-life examples, spreadsheets, and accounting software to make concepts relatable and applicable.
• Assess and evaluate students’ performance through continuous assessments, assignments, projects, class tests, and mock examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
• Prepare students effectively for internal assessments and external examinations (BECE, WAEC, NECO, and any international syllabi where applicable).
• Organise and coordinate accounting exhibitions, business simulations, career talks, and inter-house accounting competitions to enhance practical learning.
• Develop and update schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching resources in line with the Nigerian National Curriculum and the school’s academic standards.
• Integrate modern technology (Excel, accounting packages, and digital tools) into lessons to improve student engagement and digital literacy.
• Collaborate with other subject teachers on interdisciplinary projects (e.g., Business Studies, Economics, and Mathematics).
• Maintain excellent classroom management, enforce discipline, and promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning atmosphere.
• Participate actively in staff meetings, professional development workshops, parent-teacher conferences, and extracurricular activities as required.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department or School Principal.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc., B.Ed., or B.A. Ed.) in Accounting, Finance, Business Education, or a closely related field (Master’s degree will be an added advantage).
• Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE/PDE) or Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with a strong focus on Accounting/Business Studies.
• Valid registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is mandatory.
• Minimum of 2–4 years of proven teaching experience in Accounting at the secondary school level (experience in senior secondary classes is highly preferred).
• Strong practical knowledge of Nigerian accounting standards, tax laws, and examination syllabi.
Key Skills and Competencies
• Deep passion for accounting combined with the ability to simplify complex concepts for young learners.
• Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic accounting software.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit students of varying abilities and learning styles.
• Organisational skills, patience, attention to detail, and a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with current trends in accounting education.
What We Offer
• Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
• Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, pension contributions, and paid leave.
• Opportunities for professional development, workshops, and accounting certification support.
• A supportive, collaborative, and progressive work environment within a reputable school.
• The chance to contribute to a vibrant academic community and shape future business leaders.
