Job Title: Head of Accounts (Travel Industry)
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Ikoyi, Lagos.
Employment Type: Full-Time
Experience Required: Minimum of 7 years’ accounting experience in the travel industry
Role Summary
The Head of Accounts is responsible for leading the company’s accounting operations with a strong focus on the financial processes unique to the travel and tourism industry. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, statutory compliance, and effective management of travel-related financial transactions including IATA BSP, GDS reconciliations, airline remittances, foreign currency transactions, and vendor reconciliations.
The role requires deep industry expertise, strong leadership capability, and the ability to provide strategic financial support to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management & Reporting
• Oversee daily accounting operations and general ledger activities.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts, vendors, customers, and intercompany accounts.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity position.
• Supervise payroll accounting, expense control, and fixed asset management.

2. Travel Industry–Specific Accounting
• Manage IATA BSP reconciliations and airline remittance processes.
• Reconcile GDS sales reports (Amadeus, Sabre, Galileo) with accounting records.
• Monitor ticket sales, refunds, ADM/ACM, commissions, and incentive income.
• Manage foreign currency transactions and domiciliary account reconciliations.
• Ensure proper accounting for hotel bookings, tour packages, visas, insurance, and ancillary services.
• Liaise with airlines, consolidators, and travel partners on billing discrepancies and remittances.

3. Compliance & Internal Controls
• Ensure compliance with CAMA, IFRS, and Nigerian tax regulations.
• Prepare and file VAT, WHT, CIT, PAYE, and other statutory obligations promptly.
• Coordinate external audits and address audit queries efficiently.
• Develop and strengthen internal control systems to prevent revenue leakages and fraud.

4. Team Leadership & Supervision
• Lead, supervise, and mentor the accounts team.
• Establish KPIs and monitor team performance.
• Ensure proper documentation, filing, and record retention of financial documents.

5. Budgeting & Strategic Support
• Support the CFO in annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Provide financial analysis and insights to aid business decisions and cost optimization.
• Analyse revenue streams and profitability by product line and business unit.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• ICAN or ACCA certification is mandatory.
• Minimum of 7 years’ relevant accounting experience within the travel industry.
• Strong practical knowledge of IATA BSP, GDS systems, and travel financial processes.
• Proficiency in accounting software like TRAACS etc. and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
• High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
