We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Accountant to join our esteemed client's finance department. This role is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within Nigeria. The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records, focusing on financial reporting and general ledger management. This position requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles, a meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and proactively.
The responsibilities include preparing and analyzing financial statements, journal entries, and account reconciliations. You will be responsible for the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all deadlines are met. The Senior Accountant will also assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, as well as support external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations. This role involves liaising with various departments to gather financial information and resolve discrepancies. A key aspect of the job is to ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations, including IFRS. You will also be involved in improving accounting processes and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data. Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with team members and management. Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills are a must. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, coupled with a recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, ICAN) is highly desirable. At least 5 years of progressive experience in accounting roles, with a strong focus on financial reporting, is required. This is a remote-first opportunity, so candidates must be self-disciplined, organized, and possess a reliable internet connection and a suitable home office environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS. Perform general ledger reconciliations and ensure accuracy of all financial data. Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes efficiently and accurately. Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications. Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis. Support external auditors during financial statement audits. Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and internal controls. Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulations. Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information and address inquiries. Maintain a strong understanding of the company's business operations to ensure accurate financial reporting. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. Professional accounting certification (ACCA, ICAN, or equivalent) preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on financial reporting. In-depth knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian accounting standards. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks) and advanced MS Excel skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment.
